Affiliate Disclosure

Some stories on We Dig Skulls may link to products or services sold by other companies, and when you buy through one of those links we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This page explains how those links work, how to tell them apart from our own shop, and what stays the same no matter who pays us.
The short version
If a link in a story is an affiliate link, we may earn a small commission when you buy through it. The price you pay does not change. We say so beside the link itself, because the FTC's guidance is that the closer a disclosure sits to the recommendation, the better. This page is the longer explanation behind that note.
How do affiliate links work?
An affiliate link is a special web address that tells a store a reader arrived from our page. If that reader makes a qualifying purchase, the store may pay us a commission. You are never charged extra for it.
The words "affiliate link" on their own do not always tell people that money is involved. The FTC says as much in its affiliate guidance, so we use plainer wording, along these lines: "Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through them, We Dig Skulls may earn a commission at no extra cost to you."
Where will you see them?
You will see the note near the link, in the story where the link appears. We do not rely on this page alone to carry the message, since a disclosure tucked away on a separate page is easy to miss.
Most stories have no product links at all. They are about skull and skeleton history, symbolism and traditions, and they stand on their own.
Are our own products affiliate links?
No. The shirts, hoodies, mugs and stickers in our shop are ours, and a purchase there is a different thing from an affiliate click. Those orders go through Fourthwall, which is the merchant of record: it takes payment, makes each item to order, ships it and provides order support.
Fourthwall's Terms of Service say that Fourthwall is responsible for sourcing, shipping, returns and refunds on product orders, and that each product order is a transaction directly between Fourthwall and the buyer. For the details, see our shipping and returns pages.

What never changes
Our stories are written to explain a symbol, a tradition or a piece of history to the reader. A commission does not decide what a story says about a skull, a custom or a date.
A commission also does not guarantee a positive word about a product. The disclosure tells you that a financial connection may exist; it does not by itself describe how a product was chosen. The note beside a link tells you whether we may earn from it.
Program disclosures
Some affiliate programs require specific wording. When a story links through one of them, the matching line appears on that page, written the way the program asks.
Amazon: We Dig Skulls is a participant in the Amazon Associates program. As an Amazon Associate, We Dig Skulls earns from qualifying purchases. Stories that link to Amazon say so beside the link.
When a story links to Etsy: this is an advertisement, and We Dig Skulls may earn a commission if you buy through the link.
When a story links to another program: the note near the link will say that we may earn a commission, in plain words, in the same language as the recommendation.
These lines apply only to the stories that carry them.
